Video: Daria Werbowy in In Her Skin – or a video homage to Lancôme’s new Visionnaire Foundation

I fell in love with this video when I saw it a few weeks ago, on the brilliant new website www.neverunderdressed.com (a fabulous mash up of fashon, beauty, pop culture and just all round cool stuff). Enjoy Daria Werbowy, face of Lancôme on the rooftops of NY just looking effortlessly gorgeous and wearing nothing but the new Lancôme foundation, Visionnaire. This is how skin should look – touchable and like there’s nothing but a Spring breeze and some sunshine on it (and some Daria genetics probably help too). Rock on.

News: Alber Elbaz x Lancome

So imagine my excitement when I found out that Lancome is going to be collaborating with one of my favourite designers, Alber Elbaz for Lanvin! I can only imagine how gorgeous this collaboration will be.

Having worked for the house of Lanvin in Paris on one of their first men’s advertising campaigns (super hairstylist James Rowe was doing hair, and I was doing grooming), I have a very soft spot in my heart for Alber Elbaz’s elegant and refined version of womanhood.

“Alber Elbaz is, without a doubt, one of the world’s most influential fashion designers. But beyond that, he is also the most talented, explains Youcef S. Nabi, Lancôme President. His sense of luxury, his vision of femininity and that hint of audacity resonate perfectly with the new values of the Maison Lancôme. We are extremely proud and happy that, with us, he is set to channel his universe into the world of make-up for the very first time.”

The new Alber Elbaz for Lancome collection will be unveiled worldwide on June 15th, 2013, and I for one, can’t wait.

In the meantime here’s a fab backstage video, an oldie but a goodie from 2009, of the Lanvin Autumn/Winter show. This still looks amazing with Guido’s blunt cut long bobs and Pat McGrath’s shiny metallic black-rimmed eyes. I also love the interview with Alber where he talks about loving your differences, and being sick of uniformity and the clone-like nature of modern fashion. Still relevant, four years on.

Video: Betty Boop and Daria in the new Lancome film, for Hypnose Star mascara

How cute is this new video! I’ve loved Betty Boop since I was a little girl, and I’m so happy she’s been brought back with this cute Lancome collaboration. If the new Lancome mascara, Hypnose Star, is anything as good as their existing mascara range, well I’ll take ten please. Lashes fit for a star!

Right Now: Lancome Juicy Kusama Tubes

Right Now: Lancome Juicy Kusama Tubes

Lancôme Juicy Kusama Tubes

How cute are these new Juicy Tubes from Lancôme? They’re called Juicy Kusama, and they’re not your typical gloss. They feel amazing on, losing the stickiness of glosses of yore as they are specially designed with vitamins to make you feel good. They contain Bisabolol and Sweet Almond Oil, plus a blend of Vitamin C, B5, E and shea butter (the best natural skin softener there is), to protect, heal and nurture dry lips. Plus the colours are cute as well, ranging from sheer strawberry through to pink and peach. AND they have cute designs on the packaging which always makes me smile when I use it.

It’s a limited edition range, so be quick! Available on-counter in Australia from the 10th of July.

Video: Aaron de Mey for Lancôme

Check out this triple video extravaganza of amazing makeup artist Aaron de Mey, working with the new Teint Miracle foundation and concealer from Lancôme. Aaron de Mey is the Creative Director at Lancôme worldwide, and has had significant input over the last couple of years in making their already beautiful and luxurious products younger and cooler than before. Did I mention he’s also one of the world’s most in-demand editorial makeup artists? Well he is – his work regularly appears in Vogue, W, Numero – all the best places really! Originally from NZ, now based in NY, he’s an MM fave. Watch a master at work.

New Collection – Lancome Ultra Lavande

I’m very excited about this week’s launch of Lancome‘s new collection for Spring, Ultra Lavande – and there’s a few reasons why. One, because it’s shades of purple and lavender which never go out of season at MM HQ, two because it’s Aaron de Mey who created it (one of my makeup artist crushes), and three, it has Julia Restoin-Roitfield as the new spokesmodel. I did her makeup in London and not only is she gorgeous with the style you’d expect from someone who basically grew up at Paris Vogue, she’s also a really lovely, friendly girl. Check out the behind the scenes video of the making of the new Ultra Lavande commercial. Then go get your lavande on (I know I will be).

In My Makeup Kit: Lancôme Color Design Strasse eyeshadow in Dazzling Steel

Lancome Color Design Strasse eyeshadowHappy New Year! I hope you all had a fun and festive holiday season and are returning to every day life bright eyed and bushy tailed (as opposed to hungover and broke, which is the other, less attractive option).

I’m going to kick off the year by declaring a new love, although it’s one that’s been around for awhile. And alright, I’ve been crushing on it for a bit as well, most of last year in fact, but still! Let’s put it in the New Year, New Love category.

It’s Lancôme. My interest in this brand goes from strength to strength. I used to just like their skincare – their Bi-Facil Eye Makeup remover has been in my kit for years as it removes even the toughest eye makeup with one gentle swipe, and I love their Hydra-Zen moisturisers. I had a few makeup bits of theirs floating around, but nothing major. By the time I got to Lancôme I felt I had really built my kit and there wasn’t much room for anything else. In the last couple of years though it feels like it has really become more interesting as a brand – the formulations are the same high quality they have always been, but with Aaron de May now as Global Creative Director it feels like it’s breaking new ground and this grand dame of French cosmetics is loosening up a little, getting a younger, fresher image.

So just before Christmas I found myself SQUEEZING in a new Strasse eyeshadow (and I do mean squeezing – that kit is TIGHT). The colour? Dazzling Steel, which you would expect to be a rich pewter but is actually an unusual khaki grey colour. Why is it getting crushed into my kit? It’s sparkly, and I’m still loving metallic makeup – it’s not just for the holidays you know!

I like the way the shine catches the light but still looks elegant, not like some 15 year old let out of a school disco. This is sparkle for grown ups, and whilst it’s lovely as a liner I’m looking forward to letting this sparklepuss out of the bag and rocking it with a smoky eye combo for some true sexy evening allure. And Lancôme? I have a feeling we ain’t heard nothing yet.

Beauty Breakdown: Julia Roberts at the Eat, Pray, Love premiere in New York

Julia Roberts at the Eat, Pray, Love premiereMakeup by Genevieve Herr

Julie Roberts looked absolutely radiant at the premiere of her new film, Eat, Pray, Love, which is her first major role since signing on with Lancôme* as a celebrity spokesmodel for them.

Her long-time makeup artist, Genevieve, created a beautiful look using plums and pinks to bring out Julia’s natural beauty. Here’s what she used:

Face

  • Lancôme* Teint Miracle foundation (launching next month)
  • Laura Mercier Secret Concealer
  • Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder (a MakeupMole favourite!)

Cheeks

  • Lancôme Petticoat Pink crème blush (since discontinued, unfortunately)

Eyes

  • Lancôme Le Crayon Khôl* in Black Ebony
  • Lancôme French Touch Colour Design Quad (from the new French Coquettes collection)
  • Définicils * Precious Cells mascara in Black

Lips

  • Lancôme Le Lipstique Lip Liner in Sheer Natural
  • Color Design Lipstick in Love it!
  • Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling

Lancome French Coquettes Collection

I found this behind the scenes video of the new Lancome Autumn/Winter collection for Lancome, French Coquettes. It’s an homage to the French Belle Epoque era, and I have to say the makeup looks gorgeous (particularly the new  Ombre Magnetique eyeshadows.)

Last year New Zealand born, New York based makeup artist Aaron de Mey was appointed as the Global Makeup Director for the brand, and ever since then it’s looking more and more interesting. I have kind of a makeup crush on Mr de Mey (It’s kind of like a girl crush, but he’s a guy, and there’s more makeup involved), as he’s one of the world’s foremost editorial makeup artists.

Check out the video with gorgeous brand ambassadors Daria Werbowy and Electtra Wiedermann (and yes, her mum is Isabella Rosellini in a nice twist on the Lancome heritage).

Lancome’s French Coquettes collection will be available exclusively at Harvey Nichols from the 20th August, and nationwide throughout the UK from the 1st September.

Trends: Lilac Eyes

Dior Spring 2010 Make up - Vlada RoslyakovaSpring isn’t quite officially here, but as far as I’m concerned, its time to look ahead and think about bare legs, short skirts (yessssss! say all the men in London), and most importantly, re-think your makeup bag for the coming season. I call it a bonafide trend as of today, because I saw three ladies on the Tube in one morning wearing varying shades of violet on their eyes. So my top trend? It’s Lilac Eyes.

It’s been awhile since we’ve had (interesting, cough) true beauty trends – for a few seasons it’s been the same old stuff recycled again and again – natural makeup, perfect skin, smoky eyes, red lips – and much as I love those classics, aren’t we all just a little bit keen for something different?

I know I am, which is why I sat up just a little bit straighter when the genius makeup maestro Pat McGrath sent a bevy of beauties down the runway for Dior with gasp! lavender eyelids. Gorgeous, glowing, proper washes of Easter egg purple – it’s part of a bigger seasonal trend for pastels that I predict will be huge this season, as we all search for color to lift us out of (let’s be honest), 2009’s deep funk. The ubiquitous Ms McGrath even did pastel eyebrows yesterday for Balenciaga. Whilst I don’t see us necessarily sporting a pastel brow to herald in the warmer months, a pastel lid we can do. To the paintbox, ladies!

Lilacs I love

NARS Jolie Poupee duo – vibrant lavender and deep jewel toned purple. This is where NARS really comes into its own as a range – they have one of the most rockin’ colour selections anywhere. Colours you didn’t know existed let alone thought that you needed – that is until you headed down to your makeup counter.

NARS D. Gorgeous single eyeshadow  – a shimmery pale lilac. Worth wearing for the name alone!

Bobbi Brown Lavender and Lilac eyshadows, with Bobbi Brown cream shadow in Orchid. Yeeeeeeeaaaah. That’s what I’m talking about.

Becca Lapis Eyetint with Ametrine – this creates a more subtle, shiny wash of color that is so, so gorgeous on. Lapis is apparently a Limited Edition color so if you want it, you’ll have to be quick.

Estee Lauder single eyeshadow in Lilac – beautiful, does what it says in the box, shimmering lavender to make your eyes glow.

How to wear it

Although lavender looks gorgeous on every eye color, pastels can be a little hard to wear if not done correctly. The application part is easy – simply wash your chosen color from the lashline to the crease, with a brush or your finger in the case of a cream.

But in order to make it work, you need a very thin black liner along the lashes – like dental floss! Oh so thin. Liquid or gel eyeliner is more defined than a pencil. And lashes, lots and lots of lashes. You’re going to need a Bad Boy mascara, one that gives you lashes for days – not clumpy, not trampy, but ultra flirty and lots of ‘em. Go nuts. I am currently liking Lancome Hypnose mascara for this uber-sexy effect.

Without eyeliner and mascara you will look like an egg – but not of the Easter variety. Just an albino one. If you feel a bit naked under the eyes you can always softly smudge a nice chocolate pencil. MAC Coffee pencil is a good one.

Go easy on the foundation – heavy, mask-like base will quickly take this into Grannyland (and nobody really wants to go there). Myface foundation is lovely for light, everyday wear that still gives sufficient coverage. And no weird fake tans please – pastels and fake tan will make you look like the bonkers neighbour in There’s Something about Mary, and the Mole is never EVER going to tell you to look like that!

Blush is a must, a soft pink would be good, but nothing too cutesy. I like a pink with a little bit of gold shimmer in it – my latest fave for most skintones is Chantecaille powder blush in Laughter.

Although Ms McGrath went for the full magilla at Dior with a bright red lip, I would possibly choose something a little more understated if you’re just going out for groceries. I like a soft pink lip with a bit of brown (again to keep it out of the kindergarten, and make it pretty without looking like you should be sporting an Easter bonnet). Becca Sheer Tint lip colour in Gisella, Myface Vintage Pink lipstick, and the old classic Estee Lauder Crystal Baby lipstick are all good options. You may not have a Spring in your step yet, but at least it can be Spring on your eyes.
