New Beauty Breakdown! Burberry Prorsum A/W 2014

So the Burberry woman doesn’t vary that much from season to season – she’s always polished, English, and quintessentially cool with the expert hands of makeup artist Wendy Rowe and fabulous hairdresser Neil Moodie tweaking her look, but always sticking with the brand DNA.

This season I particularly liked though, as it’s inspired by the Bloomsbury literary and artistic movement of last century, and this is the type of eye I think is perfect for the cooler months. It’s a gorgeous mix of aubergine and taupey-mauve that works not only for the likes of Burberry girls like Edie Campbell, Cara Delevingne and Suki Waterhouse, but also makes the eye colour of mere mortals pop. The sheer coverage foundation and light enhancing luminsers makes even average civilian skins look good. Here’s the Burberry Beauty products Wendy Rowe used:

Face

  • Fresh Glow in Nude Radiance and Golden Radiance
  • Sheer concealer
  • Sheer Powder

Blush

  • Light Glow Blush in Earthy no 7

Eyes

  • Complete Eye Palette in Nude Blush
  • Effortless Kohl in Stone 03
  • Effortless Mascara in Midnight Black

Lips

  • Lip Cover in Tulip Pink No 27

New Beauty Breakdown! Chanel Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2014

Ah the couture. Magical clothes that are made by the world’s most skilled artisans, and designed by the greatest fashion minds of our time, with price as no object. Could there be anything more beautiful?

The redoubtable Karl Lagerfeld has done it again at the Chanel Haute Couture show last week, creating a dazzling collection that culminated in Cara Delevigne as the bride, wearing trainers. Which sounds like so many shades of wrong until you see it, when you realise it captures fashion’s current mood perfectly.

And the makeup! Peter Philips has done it again with a simple, ethereal gorgeous makeup featuring a silver glitter liner under the eye. Here’s the Chanel products he used:

COMPLEXION

  • Perfection Lumiere Velvet New Foundation Collection (available in April)
  • Eclat Lumiere concealer
  • Poudre Universelle Libre

THE EYES

  • Ligne Graphique de Chanel “Noir-Noir” (N°10)
  • Le Crayon Khol “Clair” (N°69)
  • Mascara Volume de Chanel “Black” (N°10)
  • Eyelash Curler de Chanel
  • Crayon Sourcils
  • Le Sourcil de Chanel

THE CHEEKS

  • Blush Joues Contraste “Espiègle” (N°65)

 THE LIPS

  • Rouge Coco Shine “Satisfaction” (N°89) – (from the “Variation” Collection available March)

THE NAILS

  • Le Vernis “Frisson” (N°543)

PS If you want to get your paws on that silver glitter, MAC do a fabulous range of glitters, or a theatrical makeup store should be able to help you find something just as gorgeous. I like Screenface, Charles Fox or Guru Makeup when I’m in London, or in Sydney you could try my favourite makeup artist store, Scotty’s Makeup on Broadway.

Gucci Westma makeup for Revlon

New beauty Breakdown! New York Fashion Week – Oscar de la Renta Fall 2013

So every year the highlight of the New York leg of the global Fashion weeks is invariably the work of Diane Kendal, and Gucci Westman. Two of my favourite makeup artists they consistently delight with amazing interpretations of the key trends that women will be wearing in the coming months, and making it look polished, effortless and cool. No easy task considering the drama of working backstage before a show!

One of the stand out shows for me this season has been Oscar de la Renta, lead by Gucci Westman for Revlon, where she is Global Creative director. Ever since she has been at the helm I’ve watched Revlon as a brand blossom into an increasing array of covetable, beautiful new products and shades that are also affordable, something that in the current economic times we can all appreciate! I keep Revlon products in my kit and also use them on myself, which I think is a great test of their adaptability.

On to the look at ODLR! This season there were not one but four distinct makeup looks. Gucci Westman said:

“Each of the four looks represents a different type of girl: gypsy, sophisticate, urban chic and East Asian jet setter.  The one common thread is purity.  I created a look that hLog Outighlights the innate beauty of the face from the eyes to the lip to clear, shiny skin.”

The Burberry show is always a stand-out on the MM show calendar. The clothes are amazing, the front-row celebs are always swoon-worthy (and look like a million bucks, decked out in Burberry clothes AND beauty), and the hair and makeup – by Neil Moodie and Wendy Rowe respectively – is always gorgeous. Easy, modern glamour that never looks contrived.

This season Wendy Rowe went for a beautiful red lip, courtesy of the new Lip Velvet lipstick in Siren Red, that’s launching later this year (and if it’s anything like the new Velvet foundation this is definitely going to be a product worth checking out).

Rag and Bone Candice

New Beauty Breakdown! NYFW Rag and Bone Spring – Summer 2013

Makeup by Gucci Westman for Revlon

Since New York Fashion Week is in full swing and all our favourite creative are hard at work bringing you the new looks for the season, I wanted to post my favourite look so far – quelle surprise it’s Rag and Bone. I love the Rag and Bone aesthetic and their shows are always a standout, no less as they are helmed by Gucci Westman, one of my favourite makeup artists. Inspired by early Peter Lindbergh photos of Linda and Christy Turlington, the makeup was simple but striking. Here’s how to get her version of 90’s supermodel glamour.

Revlon Global Artistic Director, Gucci Westman, created a strong but feminine look by giving models a structured brow with a subtle cheek, lip and eye for rag & bone’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection.

I wanted to create a look that was bold, but still looked soft and natural,” says Westman. “I was inspired by the iconic supermodels of the 90’s and the great structure of their brows. I kept the makeup very pure, adding just a touch of natural flush to the lips by mixing two lip products together, and I used a brow pencil to create subtle freckles and a dramatic brow to top the whole look off.

To recreate the white hot nail look worn by half of the models, celebrity manicurist Jin Soon Choi suggests creating a short square shape that’s slightly rounded and then smoothing out the ridges with a thick base coat to prepare them for polish.

“White can be intimidating to wear,” says Choi. “To guarantee a finished look, you should always use three coats, as it ensures that the polish will look perfectly opaque and smooth.”

New Beauty Breakdown! Oscar de la Renta at NYFW, Autumn/Winter 2012

Makeup by Gucci Westman

I know that New York Fashion Week was a couple of weeks ago, but I just loved this makeup by amazing makeup artist Gucci Westman. I thought it was fresh and gorgeous, like all her makeup really (and let’s be honest, my favourite type of makeup).

Gucci Westman is Revlon’s Global Creative Director and under her ministrations the brand has gone from strength to strength. Here’s what she said about the Oscar de la Renta makeup “ I wanted the makeup to be gorgeous, but still look a bit dishevelled. I put the focus on the eye by lining the top lid, added a mix of eyeshadows and layered on lots of volumising mascara for a very intense lash look. I paired this with a soft pink lip to add a bit of femininity.”

Kate Bosworth, Burberry, London Fashion Week

New Beauty Breakdown! Kate Bosworth at the Burberry Prorsum Show, London

Makeup by Florrie White
All products by Burberry Beauty

When I saw how gorgeous Kate Bosworth looked at last week’s Burberry show at London fashion Week, I had to find out her makeup look. Luckily I know her makeup artist, Florrie White as I used to assist her in London, so Florrie gave me the info on what she used – and now I REALLY have my eyes on some of those yummy Burberry eyeshadows…

“Kate was very relaxed about her make up and let me work to create the “best version of yourself” make up. Kate has a healthy warm Californian skin tone which I evened out with Sheer Foundation in Trench no. 3 and 4, using the lighter shade to even out the complexion and the darker shade to add a little contour over her features. I banished any shadows under and in the inner sockets of her eyes with Sheer Concealer in Light and Soft Beige.

I didn’t need to touch her perfect eyebrows so I concentrated on subtly shading her eyelids with sheer Shadow in Gold Trench all over her lids and then more definition in the outer socket of her eye and under her lower lashes in Chestnut. I brought out her lash more by smudging Eye Definer in Midnight Brown into her
lower lashes then enhanced her top lashes with a soft but solid line across her top lashes. I curled her lashes and then applied 3 coats of mascara in Midnight Black, combing through the lashes afterwards.

A further warm and sunny glow was achieved by applying Fresh Glow to highlight her temples and top of her cheeks and then I swept Warm Glow in Copper Glow over the apples of her cheeks, across the bridge of her nose and over her forehead into her hairline.

I highlighted her Cupid’s bow with Lip Definer in Nude Beige and also on the bottom outer edge of her mouth and the filled it in with a creamy layer of lipstick in Nude Beige.”
